User Research

Overview

These user personas were created as part of my User Interface and Design certificate. I began my user research by interviewing ten people and compiling those insights into three separate user personas. These were used to inform a fictional app, Gear 2 Peer, offering outdoor equipment rentals privately between two parties. Like the AirBnb of recreational gear.

Challenges faced

The primary challenge I faced was creating great, targeted interview questions. The interviews took place via emails, so I didn’t have the luxury of naturally arising conversation. I did make the mistake of asking a few yes or no questions whose responses were just that. I had to rework them to allow for elaboration and ask again.

Problems Solved and Content’s Impact

This user research allowed for a more robust picture of who would be using the product, and in turn, helped inform what the product needed. I find user research a necessary aspect in development as you can’t outrun bad UI.
